Jamy has begun focusing his teachings around the idea of an economy of movement and freeing oneself from technique. The dancer's freedom to perform is only accomplished when he/she learns to trust that the technical training that's been in development for many years will be available to the artist when called upon. Ideally, the dancer's full focus is on their artist expression so a strong channel of communication can be formed and maintained with the audience. A dancer is first and foremost an artist that has chosen their body to be the tool for creative expression.
Jamy is a native of Lubbock, Texas, and has performed for audiences around the world. He enjoyed a 13-year career with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago – first with founder Lou Conte, then under the direction of Jim Vincent. He then joined Nederlands Dans Theater in The Hague for three years. Since his return to Chicago, Jamy performed in several productions with the Lyric Opera Chicago and The Goodman Theater in it's reinvention of Brigadoon. He became a member of The Cambrians, a global dance production network, for The Nexus Project: Autumn and Jamy. He has taught master classes in ballet, jazz and contemporary modern throughout the United States and holds a bachelor of fine arts in dance performance from Oklahoma City University.
